BattleHits Member Nekito Strider reviews a fun team experience!

The realm system is where this game really shines. Realms function as micro-servers where every player’s contributions push the shared world forward. This creates a ton of replayability — previously explored areas level up as the realm progresses, and loot and enemies constantly reshuffle, keeping things fresh.
The co-op structure is surprisingly deep for what it is. Story quest completions act as milestones that raise the base level of all explorable zones, and shops in town can be upgraded by any player. Since scaling only applies within the same zone, you can split up and tackle different areas simultaneously. You can also run multiple realms at once, which opens up some interesting possibilities — I can already picture dedicating one realm purely to crafting and shopping while using others to level characters at different progressions.
Realms are capped at four players, but the persistent nature helps here. Once a realm goes online, it appears to run server-side, meaning other players can still jump in even when the host is offline. There’s also a social layer built in: you can buy and decorate houses, place crafting stations, and make storage public so your group can pool resources.
Controller feels like the intended input method, which makes me think a console release is either planned or already in the works.
The combat is brutal but fair — not quite as punishing as a true Souls game, but it hits hard enough to matter. In co-op, enemy health and aggression scale up, and friendly fire is always on, so your group will need to actually coordinate a fighting style or you’ll spend more time killing each other than enemies.
The Verdict:
✗ Brutal combat and friendly fire can be a tough learning curve, especially for new players or casual co-op groups.
✓ The realm system is a brilliant foundation for replayability and shared progression.
✓ Co-op is deep and flexible — split up, pool resources, and build together.
✓ Gorgeous visuals and a distinct art style that sets it apart.
✓ Strong social and housing features give your group a reason to stick around.
